In an industry where data collection and analysis is not only critical, but also complex, Jeff Dyk is influencing the way oil and gas production companies process their copious amounts of data. The challenge many oil and gas businesses face is having to piece together operational software from a variety of different vendors—one piece for production data, another for financials, another for AFE and document tracking, and the list goes on. Getting these pieces to work together is not only challenging, but also expensive.

Seeing a need for a more effective solution, Dyk created Total Asset Manager™ (TAM), a comprehensive suite of products that allows oil and gas companies to manage all facets of their operations from a single user interface. TAM incorporates solutions for data collection, production tracking, alerting, AFE routing, allocations, financial analytics, equipment tracking, report writing, and others. All of these systems work in concert with each other to give comprehensive operational control of company data. The benefits are significant: better operational visibility, greater efficiency, and therefore the ability to maximize profits.

“Frequently, when companies experience growth, they acquire well leases and wells with complex histories and allocations. Often, the data from those acquisitions is not clean because it comes from many sources and in too many formats,” Dyk says. “To successfully implement a system that works throughout all departments and applications, our developers and engineers work with each client to define necessary key identifiers and map the data properly.”

Companies that have already invested in a software solution can enhance their system by utilizing TAM’s core integration and add only the features they lack. The web-based application can be implemented on-site or hosted on secure servers by Total Stream Systems, LLC with IT and support services.

RKI Exploration & Production, a growing Oklahoma company with assets in the Permian Basin and the Rocky Mountains, has been a client since 2012. Senior Engineering Technician, Kevin Fischer, identified the value of automated syncing of data between multiple systems: “Our company relies on good information and communication between departments. TAM’s integration with all of our systems means we don’t have to spend hours entering data into multiple applications,” said Fischer. “It has also been beneficial for us to have a hosted solution. We don’t have the IT staff to maintain it locally and Total Stream Systems fills that need with extremely responsive support.”

Jeff Dyk graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Petroleum Engineering from Montana Tech University. He worked for 15 years as a petroleum engineer for several oil and gas companies, gaining experience in drilling, completion, reservoir engineering, gas management, and managing operations. Jeff cultivated a passion for developing solutions that increase operational efficiency, and in 1994 he began developing software and operational solutions full time. Jeff’s company, Total Stream Systems, LLC, is based in Billings, MT and Houston, TX.
